My Boyfriend, the Rock Star
It's a school night. I should be finishing up my classroom observation reflection, Paolo his Macro homework. But he just spent an hour and 1/2 bouncing ideas off me for his opening performance at the Lone Catalysts show Saturday. He feels the pressure, I guess, seeing as he's going to CO-HOST the thing...and The Bench from now on. In short, the boy's got to come with it.
I'm in as much shock as he is. Saturday, out of much respect for Paolo's stage presence, BBC asked him to be his co-host and to help w/ future Bench promos. THis is HUGE on a number of levels: the Bench's new pimpass venue; the sheer growth fo the Bench; BBC's well-connectedness locally/nationally; the bigger, badder acts BBC is booking. I mean, talk about the gods smiling down upon you and your unsuspecting ass. Talk about DAYAM! Paolo may even get to open at/host the Mos/Talib/Pharaohe/Jean Grae show in November!
I don't think Paolo ever expected any good to come out of his move to Houston. Coming home from Berkeley in 2001 I, myself never expected BBC's Super Dope Hip-Hop at Helio's, along w/ Houston's fledgling hip-hop community, to amount to anything. Four years later, I'm happy to report that BBC has proven me wrong.
I'm EXTREMELY happy to know that Paolo's finally getting the nourishment and recognition from the hip-hop community that he's always craved. In Houston! It's a two-way street, though. This town needs him, just as much as it needs the movement he's part of. He's so much more of a blessing here.

Boondocks Coming To Cartoon Network

The Cartoon Network has ordered 15 half-hour episodes of the popular comic strip "The Boondocks." The animated show will be based on the award winning comic strip series created by executive producer Aaron McGruder. The series is set to premiere this October on Cartoon Network's popular "Adult Swim" block of programming. Okie, so where have the plugs been? Paolo showed me a magazine today that announced an Oct. 2 season premier? Jiggah whaaa?
