They said, 'We are afraid.'
'Come to the edge,' he said.
They came.
He pushed them...
And they flew."

"Buddy" Jesus

Man, oh man. Tonight was an interesting trek into CCE land. Just as I began discussing Jesus' divine nature, the kids started whispering amongst themselves and eventually popped the inevitable question: "So are you and Paolo, like brother & sister...?" I informed them about mine and Paolo's "Special Friendship," and they completely lost it. Laughter every which-a-way. Even PAOLO. He got so nuts, that he had to leave the room. Guess our cover is blown. What's so damn funny about having a "Special Friend" anyway? Sheesh.

But anyways. On the upside, the kids totally got into tonite's lesson, "Images of Jesus," which taught how Jesus has been portrayed throughout the centuries (i.e. the passion, the ressurection, the sacred heart, etc.). They absorbed the passages we had them look up, listened attentively, and asked some incredibly perceptive questions.

I think me & my Special Friend have really broken the ice & gotten through to these kids. God's so awesome.

Speaking of the Man Upstairs' Awesomeness. One of my former teacher's called me today to inform me that I may have a part time job waiting for me up at Empowerment High School. How cool is that?? To refresh yall's memories, Empowerment is a non-traditional magnet school modeled after my alma mater, Quest High School. It's designed for inner-city kids. 90% of the faculty, staff, and student population is black.

The school's interested in your's truly b/c I am a product of Quest's Service Learning component of the curriculum. Since Empowerment hasn't completely figured out how to implement their Service Learning component in the year they've been open, they need help.

I dont' want to jinx any prospects, but this is so dope. Just as I make the decision to leave Starbucks and apply for a job more closely aligned w/ my career field, a timely phonecall comes my way.

In light of yesterday's entry, I think you understand why today's phonecall is so important to me.

I know I'm headed in the right direction.

Again, God's totally The Man.
