Old Hippies R a Hoot

Bleh. I`m at the CDF office right now working on the Catholic Church campaign publicity packet. Barbara`s on vaca right now, so I`ve got the whole place to myself. I got up like, 30 minutes before class this morning so, in my rushto fight morning traffic, I was forced to cover my largely uncooperative hair w/ my old Berkeley cap. Walking to my car after class, some elderly chick got hold of my arm and goes, "Berkeley? You went to Berkeley? I went to Berkeley too back during all the protests for the war, man." (she used the word "man" quite frequently during our brief, yet entertaining conversation) She said that the campus had lost all its creativity & passion since the 60`s & 70`s, today only attracting students after the *bling-bling*. In some respects, I had to agree w/ her. But at the same time, the cultural and symbolic ties to this nation have progressively dissintigrated throughout the generations. In the absence of a devastating national event (note: 9/11), the true meaning of what it is to be an American is no longer clear. There are no longer any wars to be fought & people just don`t feel motivated to be political about anything. Old hippies. They`re a hoot. Eh. I`m just gonna finish this packet at home. Val`s totally ready for the weekend. The girls and I are probably going to hit the Sunday night poetry slam downtown again. The one we went to the other week was just off the chain! There was some intensely powerful & creative thought up in that place for sure.
