6.9 - BBQ @ Aunt Auring's
6.10 - Aunt Christine & Family's "Goin Back to Cali" thing. Yet another family "gathering" at my place. Ultimate fuseball championship @ which I reigned victorious. Nevermind the fact that I was up against elementary school kids. WINNING is WINNING.
6.11 - Mom's surgery. Went very well. Aunt Auring, John, and I slept in the waiting room most of the day. Preliminary testing showed no metastasis. :) She had outpatient status so I went home right after to prep the room for her return.
Watched The Sum of All Fear w/ the boys. Was originally supposed to be Fernando's date w/ Leigh but that scandalous bastard invited everyone to come along. Can't say I didn't find the situation funny, though. *looks around* Anyways, TSOAF was a Badass film! Thinktank/Running & Jumping Spy goodness! Reinforced my wanting join the CIA. haha.
Went home expecting my mom to have arrived. Found out that she hadn't responded well to the anesthesia (as usual), so the doctors decided to keep her overnight. FYI, they like for patients to be able to walk unaided before allowing them to go home. Dad & I stayed overnight w/ her at the hospital.
6.12 - Aunt Vicky calls to inform me of a "problem" w/ my 15 yr old cousin, Chris. He's got a gf of 2 months, and she caught him that morning attempting to sneak back into the house. He came clean and admitted to sneaking out frequently w/ his gf, Jenny. He says he's in love. Afraid of possible *consequences* that may result from such behavior, my aunt asked me to have a chat w/ him. I've been a sort of older-sister figure to him since we were little, and she thought (correctly) that he'd be more inclined to listen to me over her and my uncle.
Took the boy to Starbucks and gave him a little pep-talk about not moving so quickly, making sure to remember that he's got his whole life ahead of him, (not to mention a grip new girls yet to meet), to settle now and risk it all on one girl, and I threw in some anecdotes. He said he was glad I talked to him and that he needed to hear what I had to say. Then he beat me at fuseball >:-/
I told his mom that a little talking once in a while w/ him can do a lot. I hope he makes good choices.
6.13 - Attempted Canton Crew reunion. Charisse couldn't make it and my cousin Lisa & her delinquent boyfriend, Jerald backed out last minute b/c they'd gotten into a fight. Again. What pissed me off is the fact that she always pulls shit like this. She says she go out, doesn't show up, and then one of us (read: me) ends up calling her to find out that she'd only been saying she could go to save face. She doesn't say this outright, mind you, but then again, that's to be expected. Typical frikken filipino. And yes, for the record, her bf's turned out to be as big a crazy mofo as I'd warned her - threatening to smash her windshield, breaking things in their apartment, regulating the places she goes, the people she sees. ..but shit, she lets him. One day, he's going to break her face but she won't believe any of us until it actually happens. I really wish she would learn.
ANY-WAYS, it ended up being just me and Jae. This was interesting for reasons I'll talk more of later. Suffice to say that I had great time and that I really enjoy him. ...*silly grin*... We decided to watch Undercover Brotha (HILAR-FRIKKEN-LARIOUS) and then stopped back at my place to chat.
6.14 - Mel's/Lafayette's bday: the girls (minus Raven :( ) forced me to watch the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Ewww. They're avid Oprah viewers (Ewww once again) and heard good things about it a couple of weeks ago. So we watched it. Mel cried, and Crystal was on her 2nd Ya-Ya helping. My thoughts? - Ewww. Chick flicks can go to hell.
Ate at Bennigan's w/ the boys. Played pool at Slick's in Bayou Place. We (the girls) got beat badly. We (the girls) got scoped by nasty daddies badly. Ewww.
6.15 - Played pool w/ Crystal at Kingwood College. Stopped by Old Navy for applications. Worked out at my place & watched K-Pax on pirated pay-per-view. 'Twas my second viewing...I like that movie. It triggered a religious/cosmological/existential conversation that lasted the rest of the evening. Still thinking about it right now. ..just realized that I watched 3 movies this week. ha!
